Today the sun is shining, the darkest days are over, and Spring is not far away.

                                                      I can’t wait for Spring.

Today, finally, the sun is shining, and the birds are singing. After what seems a very long winter, with deep snow, which caused so many problems, followed by days and days of rain, I feel as though Spring is in sight.

I don’t mind  the winter, or the snow, if I am wrapped up warmly, I can deal with it. But this year it started in November, far too early in my opinion. Snow always brings with it, its own set of problems, especially noticeable around Christmas time, when families want to get together, and this year , sadly, many of them were not able to.

The good thing about living in England, is you get to experience all seasons. Summer speaks for itself, lovely warm days, and summer holidays to enjoy. Even the biggest of worries seem to diminish if the sun shines brightly.  But for those people who can’t take it too hot, we also have cooler days, and gentle rain, which makes  English weather a constant topic  of conversation, as you never know whether you can safely have that outdoor party or barbecue you planned so carefully.

Autumn is a beautiful season, the sunshine becomes mellow, the trees and hedges are a wonderful splash of red, orange, yellow and green hues,  some of the best photographs have captured this splendour,  with landscape views that are truly breathtaking.

But for me, the most beautiful season of all is Spring. I love the first awakening of the birds, their beautiful songs, the new born lambs, and the way the world seems to come awake. The hour changes, and the days become longer. The blossoms appear on the trees, and the bulbs of daffodils, and the tiny crocus,  burst into life. When I walk in the woods surrounded by a carpet of bluebells, and the birds are singing, I feel as though I haven’t a care in the world.

Spring also seems to bring with it, more enthusiasm to go out,  some people  make the decision to put their house up for sale and move. Out come lighter clothes, brighter colours, the wind turns from a nine force gale to a light breeze, so walking becomes a joy again, instead of a necessity. The year stretches ahead, full of new ideas and I  regain the enthusiasm I lost during the SAD season, as I truly believe lack of sun does affect me. For all these reasons and more, I am so looking forward to Spring.

Me too. I have quite enough of winter. Really enjoyed this article very much and yes the lack of enough sunlight does have a negative effect on us, on some more than others and SAD is very real. Good writing.
