I was surprised and shocked to learn about her passing.

Elisabeth Sladen

1 February 1948 – 19 April 2011

Doctor Who fans around the world will mourn Elisabeth Sladen, who play one of the most favorite Doctor Who companions ever – Sarah Jane Smith.

I first saw Elisabeth back in the 70’s.  That is when I discovered the British show Doctor Who on PBS late one night.  I have never seen her play any character other than Sarah Jane Smith.

She played alongside the third (Jon Pertwee) and fourth (Tom Baker) Doctors of the the Doctor Who series and was brought back for an episode with the 10th (David Tennant) Doctor.

Soon after her appearance with the 10th Doctor, she became the star of her own spin off of that show.  I have seen every episode of the first three season of The Sarah Jane Adventures.  Now that she is gone, I really want to get the rest of the series.

Elisabeth Sladen died of cancer at the age of 63.  Her family did not say where she was or how long she has battled cancer.

The Liverpool native also starred in Z-Cars and Coranation Street.

Elisabeth Sladen is survived by her husband, actor Brian Miller, and daughter, actress Sadie Mille.

She also had a role in “Some Mothers ‘Ave ‘Em” I watched in on PBS. It was a British sitcom. . . I had forgotten all about that show until I read her obit. . .
