“I am the Walrus”
The Beatles
This is my favourite song although it doesn’t really make sense. All through the song there are lyrics about stuff like sitting on a cornflake, waiting for a bus, and other nonsensical ideas. Truthfully, if this song did make sense I probably wouldn’t like it. It is said that the lyrics are so random because the Beatles were on drugs while writing the song. I like this song because it shows how random the world can be. In the line “you can get a tan from standing in the English rain”, you think about things that could actually happen. Another reason that I like this song is that it’s kind of interesting listening to it just to figure out what they’re saying and what it might mean.
“Fashionable People”
Joel Plaskett
I only listened to this song for the first time last week when my sister showed it to me. Immediately when I listened to it I could relate to it. It is about normal people who do bizarre things to get what they want. I can relate to this because in my everyday life I do things that I don’t necessarily want to do just to get what I want. I also do somewhat bizarre things just to try them. Most of the time, weird things I do such as canoeing at six am in early April when there is snow on the ground do pay off. Because of that I have improved at paddling and I can say that it is worth it. I guess even if it wasn’t worth it I could at least say I did it, which I pretty impressive.
“Spider Pig”
(Choir version)
Hans Zimmer
This song was one of the songs in the Simpsons Movie that came out during the summer of 2007. I remember that summer because I was at a camp during the time the movie came out and didn’t get home for two weeks. The whole camp I was sad that I didn’t get to see the movie the day it came out. When I saw the movie it was exactly what I was expecting, and I remembered that song from the commercials that came out before the camp.
Also, the Simpsons have been my favourite show since I was 12. I still think that Spider pig song has been one of the best parts of the Simpsons.
