A brief article about anger and how this emotion can either work or destroy us.
Anger is but a popular emotion. We see it everyday, from mild annoyance to infuriating frustration. How far do you know about anger? I have just learned something new about this madness.
From one book I have read, it said that anger in itself is not bad. It could either be positive or negative, dependent of course to our reaction. Yeah, it boils down to reaction. Who would not be angered by a traffic jam when you are in a hurry? I could say that most of us would say we will not. Well, right because we are not at that exact moment. Situations like this and when unexpected “bad things” occur, bring about the first type of anger. This is Visceral Anger. Coming from the word Viscera, which means an internal matter, this kind of anguish reply is an automatic relay from our internal system. And the time frame from the occurrence to our response is but very short, we tend to respond in angry tone. I would say we all have this short circuit from time to time.
The second type of anger is Meditative. This type is the one that seeds inside us. It grows and cultures through time. And like a time bomb, it would just explode and create chaos at the moment of doom. This type of anger has the greater probability to lead us to sin. And time is playing factor. While two things act as contributors to how this anger can produce dilemma.
Anger, as quoted from the book I read, results from two things – unmet expectations and fear. Like how the buddy system works, these partners won’t achieve their full potential on anger without one another. Once we have unmet expectations, we have frustrations. And these frustrations sum up with fear that worst things could occur. Let’s pick a typical scenario with a couple. One had unmet expectation from dinner. Then out of that, the fear that the partner who did not meet the expectation do not love the other creeps in. What happens next? The person with unmet expectation fueled by fear gives in to the emotion of anger. I would presume you know what succeeds this. With understanding, the couple may able to get through the bad weather. Whereas in some cases, simple matters as such will create the doomsday.
Anger, on the other hand, can also manufacture positive effects. Anger from injustice can drive people to unite and overthrow such inequality. In history, this anger is very much exemplified. Revolutionaries with such anguish led to freedom. Perhaps, if one takes time to learn about the type of anger he is in, whether it is leading him to sin or not, is vital towards its management.
We can only craft the best technique to defeat our greatest foe by knowing the inside thoroughly. And whether we admit or not, our selves sometimes are our worst enemies. So learning a bit with each passing day about our emotion is also crucial to our growth as human – rationally, emotionally and even spiritually.
