Brief comment on Iraq enq.
Iraq inquiry
Recently a lot of excitement and anger has been dug up over the inquiry looking into Britain’s decision to join the war with Iraq in 2003. Tony Blaire will be called to give evidence, and many a grieving widow, or sibling will be wanting answers.
However, it seems like they, and everyone else is doomed not to have the answers they want. After all, what possible answer would a investigation give? At the end of the day Britain went to war with Iraq mainly in assistance of its American ally. The USA is the most powerful state in the world by a country mile plus a field or two. So its really no shock that we want to buddy up with them. Iraq was a destabilizing force in the area, and had key oil reserves. So we invaded.
The ‘morality’ or rationality, or excuses used really don’t seem to matter too much. We invaded because we could, because we wanted to and we had the power to do so. What more do people possibly want? This is international politics, this is reality. The lives of service men and women aren’t and never have been of much importance to the state. No matter the lives of the innocent Iraqi people. In some ways this represents a horrible world. In reality it just represents sensible choices on behalf of our government reactive in a real world, which is fundamentally horrible.
