Is it applicable to God? ‘Familiarity breeds contempt.’
A saying goes; ‘familiarity breeds contempt.’ You can relate this saying to many different things. But the one that bothers me much now is the issue I want to write about.
Mike and Clare were good friends. They were like five and six. You hardly see Mike without Clare. But to everyone’s greatest dismay, Mike got married to another girl. A girl he barely knows for 3 months whereas he has dated Clare for 6 years. So I wondered why he has decided to dump the girl of his life. Then it dawned on me, that the saying is correct. However, this is very rampant among men and women. Men do it very often and women as well. My worries being: is it that the barber doesn’t know the style or that the shape of the head doesn’t fit in the style? This question remained rhetorical. That is the ordeals of human I suppose. However, this is not the apple of discord.
In the bible, the prodigal son after squandering his father’s wealth was welcomed with a befitting feast. Whereas his brother when he complained was told; ‘my son you have always been with me.’ Yet not even a calf was given to him to merry with his friends.
In the same way, ninety nine sheep were left to perish while the shepherd went on to look for only one naughty sheep. The mystery is not yet raveled. I have a story to tell in order to avoid beaten about the bush.
Bonny is a very devoted Christian. He established the block rosary center in my parish. He has other 3 out-station centers in his honour. He was also an active member of so many pious organizations. Jesus said that a witness born by two or more persons is a true witness. So, many bore witness for Bonny as a good man. Later, he decided to join the seminary for priesthood. In fact, anyone who heard about it confirmed it to be the right decision for him. But it rained cat and dog in my parish the day Bonny was expelled from the seminary. No one believed his/her eyes. We were shocked and dumbfounded. Of course, many lost there faith and trust in God no doubt especially the block rosary members. From all inquiries and investigations made concerning his sudden expulsion, he committed no offense. He was asked to go because he was seen to be too good to be called. God called sinners and not saints. Wow!
Therefore, that incident has left me to wonder. Whether it is applicable to God that familiarity breeds contempt.
