Are we creators or victims of circumstances?
Have you ever wondered about how your life became what it is?
When I look back on my life I see what I call a golden thread. Why do I call it a golden thread? Basically it came to me in a meditation and it showed itself as a golden thread.
So what is my golden thread? It’s where I see how one action led to another; how I would not be where I am today without all the previous events. But there is more to it than that. It’s as if I was being led there by some external power.
But do I really believe in such an external power? Maybe once, but not now and not for a long time.
In my work as a coach I come across many questions and one of the most frequent ones is: What are the purposes of my life? How do I know what are the puposes for my life? What explanation is there for my life being the way it is.
It seems that more and more people are asking themselves questions such as this. Take a break for a moment, and consider it for yourself.
I am not just talking about the difficulties, but also the successes, the moments of victory and joy. I am talking about the whole thing.
How do you feel about how you got to where you are? Is it karma, or is because of some superforce sitting around somewhere placing judgement on all your acts on a daily, weekly, monthly or yearly basis? Is it fate – as in a pre-determined path that you have no say over?
If any or all of the above sound ridiculous to you, we are on the same wave length. But I will throw in here a mistranslated sentence from the most read book of all times – the bible.
Real translation: Let us create mankind in our own image
Mistranslation: Let us make man in our own image
Suddenly the one is “us” plural. Is that us – us?
(Notice the vast difference in the words “make” and “create”)
When creating mankind in our own image, we are taking from the inside and creating our outside. We are creating the circumstances of our lives.
Whatever we want from and in our lives, whatever success we want to achieve – it’s what’s happening inside ourselves that creates what we have going on on the outside, what is our reality.
We are at one and the same time the creators of our product (our life) and our product.
Whatever we have in our lives at this moment are direct results of our thoughts, feelings, emotions, beliefs and behaviors up until now. There is no right or wrong in this. It is a question of being aware or being ignorant. It’s a matter of choice.
If we want something different we have to change one or all of these.
