Argumentation.

Marriage is a compact entered into by and between a man and a woman; it is the bestowment of God’s approval for man and woman to live as husband and wife. As the marriage vow implies “…in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, till death do as part.” Only death of any one of them will dissolve their marriage. Yet today, many laws have been passed in order to conclude their marriage. Some of these are annulment and divorce. Recently the Philippine Congress passed the bill of contractual marriage. With this bill being imposed, marriage contract will expire in the number of specific years and is renewable. Different sectors have their own words to say yet the very questions we need to answer are: Is it just? Does the bill answer the family problems and social problems? The answers are obviously no. It will promote immorality, abandon the marital and family responsibilities, and adds problem to the society. Although there might be positive side to Contractual Marriage, but it should not be legalized because it will promote immorality, abandonment of marital and family responsibilities and chaos to the society.

With these answers the number one effect that will clearly take place is the promotion of immorality. God’s design of marriage is stated on Romans 7:2-3,“By law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage. So then, if she marries another man while her husband is still alive, she is called adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress, even though she marries another man.” We, as a Christian country, based our law from God’s word, yet today people are imitating the wicked works of the Western countries, who by now are struggling with their economy. Some individuals would say that the bill does not necessarily lead to the separation of the married couple because they have the choice whether to renew it or not. Yet it still violates God’s word because marriage would only be dissolved if and only if one dies. Furthermore, it tolerates premarital sex and extra marital sex. With the thought in mind that their marriage can be renewed or decide not to, they will take their marriage for granted. Husbands would be unfaithful to their wives and vice versa leading them to the decision of not renewing their marriage.
