In this demanding age, money means everything, it is what influences markets, starts wars, corrupts the innocent or is it? Perhaps it is the love of money which causes vile acts to be commited. We have to correct this misconception.
‘It is not money, but the love of money which is the root of all evil’
Mark Twain once said, ‘virtue has never been as respectable as money’. Here he almost implies money as one of the greater virtues. A strong statement indeed but one which has probably been holding true down the ages…
Yes, it is money which makes the world go around!! Let’s be honest, is there anyone in this room who can go through an entire day without spending a single cent? Why even the water we drink and the food we eat cost money! Then, why is it that money which holds the reins of our very existence is called the ‘root of all evil’ by some? There must be something terribly wrong if the object which is running our lives is considered evil!
If we examine this statement closely, we will be able to see properly the exact things at fault. I whole heartedly support our topic proposed. It is not money, but the greed of money which is the root of all evil. The same money which can be used to lead a simple, harmonious existence can be so different when wearing the noose of greed, it turns man into an ugly monster, selfish and a self-centered beast that is constantly obsessed and addicted and is unable to differentiate right from wrong. The gentle harmony turns into a mindless rampage and all who comes in his way is trampled upon.
As a matter of fact, money can be compared to nuclear energy. The same energy can be used to generate electricity for millions of homes but at the same time, when used wrongly, can create ever-lasting destruction. Another example is Bill Gates and Warren Buffet. The year before, Bill Gates was the world’s richest man. However, he was not greedy for wealth and did not spend extravagantly. Instead, he used to give millions of dollars to charity. Not long back, he had stepped down as the founder of Microsoft and spent time with his family. But this is the surprising part; he gave away 40 billion dollars to charity, which was almost 8/9 of his total savings. Warren Buffet is similar to Bill Gates in many aspects. He is currently the world’s richest man but even though he has access to such vast amounts of money, he prefers to lead a humble life. What is more, he saves his money for a rainy day and he gives away a lot of money to charity too.
