Comaprriosn of the countries Holidays.

France and Italy have similarities in holiday traditions involving their country. One of the most patriotic holidays celebrated in France is Armistice Day.  Armistice Day marks the end of WW1 on November 11, 1918. The settlement was declared in Compiegne, France between the allies and Germany. On this day, citizens prepare speeches and parades in their communities to honor the veterans. There are also special memorial services in church for the soldiers who fought. Italy celebrates Republic Day, which honors the country’s choice to become republic. The choice was made by the citizens of Italy after WW2. Italy also celebrates by having parades and honorary speeches. A huge military gathering and parade is held in Rome every year. Both of these national holidays are part of history and are very important to each country.

Christmas celebrations in both countries are very important. In France, Christmas is a time to spend with family and loved ones. The traditions start early in December. Children receive toys on the 6th of December by leaving their shoes by the fire place.  Families attend a midnight mass on Christmas Eve and after, have a late feast called Le Reveillon. Their feast consists of goose, turkey, ham and lots of fruits. For desert they have a 3 Kings Cake. In each cake there is a hidden bean inside of it and who ever finds it in their piece gets to be king or queen for the day. The Christmas celebrations go to New Years Day when the adults exchange presents. In Italy Christmas is also celebrated with a great feast as well. A lot of people in Italy fast 24hrs prior to their big dinner. The dinner mostly consists of fish, pasta, vegetables and fruits. Italians avoid meat during Christmas. Many families also go to church and practice special prayers at home during these times. Christmas celebrations end until January 6th when there is another feast called The Epiphany Kings Feast.  Each of these countries have their own special holidays and traditions but they also have many similarities to each other. This shows us how we are all connected and different at the same time.
