After writing so many articles about Jake, I thought it would be nice to have Jake speaks for himself.
For those of you that don’t know it, my dog is a chocolate lab of 1 year old, named Jake. Before adopting him, my husband and I were full of misconceptions about dogs and how to raise them. We would see dogs bark, jump or misbe
have and tell each other :”Our dog will not behave this way.” or “Our dog will not do that.” Of course, if that was the kind of dog we really wanted, we shouldn’t have adopted a Labrador, right? Well, the answer to that is that we did not adopt a dog. We were adopted by a dog. And, as my husband and I learned this last year, raising a puppy is nothing like we thought it would be and it’s not easy. It’s like raising a child with no short term memory and no common sense. No kidding.
To know Jake better and to know how it is, to raise him, I asked him (yes, I asked Jake) to describe himself to you, dear readers.
So, without any fanfare, please welcome… Jake !
Hello you all, my mommy asked me to talk about myself so everybody can understand why sometimes she has dark circles under her eyes or why she gets upset when I take care of daddy’s dirty socks (they are dirty, no ? What would she do with them anyway?)
Let’s start this autobiography with my insatiable hunger. I am feed between 3 and 4 cups of kibbles every day. That’s the official version. What really happens is that I also eat: twigs (lots of them), dirt (a delicacy, miam, miam!), papers, baseball cap and everything else I can get my teeth in. Also, daddy gives me whatever is left in is plate after he eats. Mommy knows it, but since daddy and I are so clever hiding it, mommy has no proof and she pretends that she doesn’t know. But I’ve seen the look in her eye. She is watching us. *Note to self: Be careful around mommy. I also lick the dishes in the dishwater (only to preclean them) when they leave it open. And when they are cooking or preparing their food, I stand guard very closely to them. My rule is that whatever fell on the floor stays on the floor. It becomes MINE.
