Kenya, Africa is currently experiencing its worst drought in over 60 years.
Free The Children is one of the few non-profit organizations that specializes in holding there word when it comes to putting donations to good use. Many organizations lack the dedication, and the good word that this non-profit organization does. When donating to a non-profit organization it is important to you that your hard earned cash is going to good use, and not being pocketed by the organization that is supposedly “helping” people and communities across the world. Free The Children manages to put 93% of the proceeds towards helping and supporting communities establish sustainable economies, self-earned incomes, thriving communities, unified communities, secondary and primary schools not only for boys but a system where the girls are still able to complete their chores when they come to school. In Kenya the majority of girls are required to stay home to help around the house doing chores such as carrying water several kilometers every day, collecting firewood, cooking, house maintenance. This is why what Free The Children is doing is so important and life-changing to areas of the world that many people have not realized just how bad the quality of life standards are, when compared to the society we live in everyday. If you are going to donate money, I am not going to tell you where to donate, but please read the rest of this article and think about your decision after. I would also like to note that my family has personally accumulated and raised over $68,000 US for the Kids in Africa. My Dad and I personally traveled there during the summer of 2009 and we got to be there for the grand opening of the first School we founded. At the moment we have founded 2 schools. I have personally have met Craig Kielburger (founder and owner of Free The Children) and I promise you that I have never met a man in my life with the dedication, sacrifice and understanding of importance of how people should be treated, and the experiences and opportunities they should be able to attain. He founded Free The Children at the young age of 12 in 1995. He has inspired all ages from every corner of the globe to take his hand in the fight for those without a voice. I hope you enjoy this read.
Note: I take no credit for the content in this article, it belongs to Free The Children. I am simply expressing it for educational use.
East Africa is currently being hit by the worst drought it has seen in over 60 years. Just to show how much your money can help, here are some stats/facts:
A donation of:
$25 provides meals for a mama and her children for one month
$50 provides meals for 10 people for one month
$100 supports nutritional check-ups and immunizations for five mamas and their children
$200 provides meals for a classroom of children for one month
Note: All donations made before September 16, every dollar doubles thanks to the Government of Canada’s East Africa Drought Relief Fund.
Your Donations Go Directly Towards:
Emergecy Aid:
Food – For the people in Kenya
Medical – Monitored Medical Support for Mama’s and their Children.
Long-Term Sustainability:
Gardens – This teaches the people the techniques and fundamentals of farming, and at the same time it also provides food/nutrients for the owners.
Clean Water – With a large portion of the water in third-world countries going untreated, it can lead to diseases and sickness which can spread amongst the people that use it as a primary and potentially the only water source in the area.
Before donating please think about it, and I give you my word that if you are going to donate your money, please do not let it go to waste. Many of these large organizations claim to be putting your donations to good use, but really they are taking the money for themselves. Free The Children is one of your best bets if you want to do something good for yourself, and better yet the people that your money affects and supports. “A little goes a long way”… Don’t question for one second who to donate/support, Free The Children is your answer! My family has raised over $68,000. I believe its $30,000 to raise a school. Get your friends, family and others together and create a goal. Whether it is $1000 or whether it is $10,000 have a goal that you have to work towards so that you can not only measure success, but also feel good about the cause you are promoting.
