Last year my daughter joined the military, she decided after a couple of years of being on her own that she was going to join the Navy after all. With the new onset of the downward spiral of the economy and lack of employment in the small town that she grew up in, she thought this would be the opportunity to see the world and have a secure job.

Although she had talked about a few times in high school, I really didn’t know if she was going to join or not. She had many dreams, to be a model on America’s Next Top Model, to be a famous fashion designer, to join the military, to open her own boutique.

At the start of her journey she started out in fashion design school, after almost a year she had decided she wasn’t getting the education that she had paid for. So, she moved on to work in a clothing store and do other work on the side. She tried many times to get her modeling career started, even tried out of for America’s next top model, but wasn’t chosen out of the many, many applicants. Then a few years later she tried again and was disappointed once again. Although she has been given her share of disappointments she never gives up.

She moved back home, had a few photo shoots here and there but nothing ever became of it. Back in her hometown she had decided maybe it is time for me to join the military. She asked me to take her to local recruiter and that is where her real journey began.

Navy was the branch she chose for more reasons than one. She set her goals high for herself. She found out what was needed to make it through boot camp and began her workout, she did it ever day and never gave up even when she was frustrated. Push ups she could never do but the time boot camp was over she was pass 70!

In August she left for her adventure into boot camp, only knowing what she was told by the recruiters, expecting the worse I guess, but as her story unfolds we learn of different circumstances.
