There are many benefits about the media. The benefits on television are that the information from the news is the very latest news and is constantly being updated. The newspapers have benefits because some people might not be able to watch the news that often, for example if they are at work, they can read the newspaper and it’s very cheap.

The problems with the media on the television is that sometimes its not very accurate because different companies will be going up against each other to get their story out first and it will be rushed. With newspapers, you’re reading the previous days news.

If you are buying a magazine on mountain biking, some only come out once a week so the buyers might get annoyed because they will want to get the next one. But it could be an advantage for the company because they will know for sure that people will buy the magazine because they have been waiting the whole week and are really interested in whats going to be in the next magazine.

The advantage with using computers are that people are able to book their plane tickets or buy a membership online instead of going all the way to the airport and buying the tickets that way. People are now also able to have instant conversations with friends or family all around the world. Now you can even get USB portable internet that they can use all over the place so that they do not have to stay in their house.

A disadvantage for the electronic media is that new movies that have been released are being copied illegally and being sold in the black market. This is affecting the producers very badly because they are losing money and are having to try and get the original DVD’s out as soon as possible.

Leisure time

Leisure time has increased as the economy has undergone a gradual change from one based on manufacturing and manual labour to one based on service. One trend that has developed in the UK is that people now seem to be working longer hours to get paid for overtime and to achieve a higher status. UK workers seem to be working much longer hours than other European workers. We now pay for nearly all of our leisure activities so that we can enjoy ourselves on the weekend after a long hard week at work. This does not include everyone but most people.

Disposable income

Disposable income is the money that you have left over after you have paid all your bills and taxes. It’s the money that you have to spend on yourself and on leisure activities. This disposable income can be spent on thing like:

·         Home entertainment

·         The home and garden

·         Eating, drinking and clubbing

·         Gambling

·         Sightseeing, day trips and short breaks

·         Holidays and holiday incomes
