LESSONS FROM MY CATS
Our pets and the other animals around us are amazing creatures. We can learn a lot from them if we only would. They seem to know what living is really all about. They aren’t hypocrites and they love so unconditionally. Sometimes we humans have trouble loving at all, we can’t even seem to like very well. My cats accept me just as I am and love me in spite of myself, even when I may be a little disgruntled toward them. We can agree to disagree and still love and care for each other.
Unlike us of the human kind, they don’t go around carrying all the troubles of yesterday around their neck like a millstone weighing them down. They know there is nothing that is going to change one yesterday. It is time spent, wisely or foolishly and it is gone. You can’t bring it back, undo it, redo it or change it. Animals let the past stay in the past. They learn from it and let it go. That is a lesson we humans don’t seem to get. We could learn a lot from our pets.
They don’t seem the least bit worried about tomorrow and what may or may not happen. People do and 90% of what we worry about never happens anyhow unless we cause it to. They just live today, this hour, this minute and they do it with style. This not only goes for my cats, or other pets we may own but I’ve observed the same thing in wildlife.
There is no bigotry, no prejudice, our pets and other animals aren’t judgmental. They love and respect each other and us just the way we are. They seem to have a real handle on the rules; rules for life and living it, the ones their Creator established and ordained. We could learn a lot from our pets. I’ve learned a few lessons from my cats. They really are wise and wonderful.
Our pets show a lot more empathy and compassion that we humans do. Did you ever notice that? If I have a day when I am not feeling well or am obviously extra busy for some reason they seem to know and understand. They aren’t demanding, they don’t insist on games of fetch the catnip mouse. Oh they may rub up against me, purr a little louder, and snuggle down close if I am resting, just to let me know they care and to keep a close eye on me to be sure I’m okay. When I am sad I can depend on lots of kitty kisses; they just seem to know and they really seem to care.
