Sending cards and letters are a great way to keep your family history. They just get better with time. Try sending a child a series of letters to make a story book.
We should send more cards and hand written letters. There is nothing more exciting than getting mail from someone you love. Try sending just a short note for any occasion. The slogan, “Give a card that keeps on giving,” actually applies to each one you send. Collections of cards and letters can be enjoyed by your loved ones long after you first received them. So, save them and let them give someone else a smile. You can enlarge and frame an old letter with the envelope showing the date and postage amount to create an art piece that will get compliments from every visitor. Also, try combining an old letter with the pictures of the parties writing to one another.
Another fun project is letter writing to a child, especially grandchildren. The following are samples of the letters written to a toddler from grandparents. The plan is for the letters to be put in a binder, additional pictures of the topics, and stickers can be added to create a special story book. Enjoy!
Letters to Sam:
MAY 3, 2005
Dear Sam,
Today, I shared some pictures of you with a very special lady.
This lady is ninety-three years old. She still lives on the same
ranch where she lived when she was a little girl.
Last week, my very old friend showed me a picture of a girl
standing on a horse! When she was a young girl her family
took her to a circus. The circus was a big event! There were
circus girls standing on horses and riding in circles.
So, after the circus, my friend tried to ride her horse like the
circus girls. Her mother took a picture as she stood on the
horse.
Your mother will take many pictures of you as you try new
things.
LOVE,
