The world is a funny place, Especially to grow up in, Only knowing things that you are told are right.
My least favorite quote “Youth is wasted on the young”
What i don’t like about most of today’s society.. Whether they are young or old is the fact that people feel like they have to be a certain way or do certain things, It’s really irritating to be doing what you like and what you want and what may be comfortable to you only to have people you barely even know telling you that (a. you should move out already.
When did it become tradition for the children to move out of their homes as soon as they are past the age of seventeen? Now I’m not for the people who decide to live in their parents house well into their thirties and forties, Because that’s a whole other thing entirely, Those people are too dependant on their parents and too scared to step out into “The Real World”
Again, what does that mean? The term: The real world?
People always say it as meaning something you have to do after high school, you graduate, you move out on your own and you are finally in the real world.. Well was everything before that fake? Was my entire childhood a dream because i wasn’t adult enough to handle certain situations? I certainly hope not.
Regardless of if you live according to life’s preset schedule or not (Go to school, graduate, get a job, go go college, graduate, start a career, meet someone, have children, become a bitter old parent, kids grow up and teach them to do exactly what you did) You are still a real person, People are so pressured to be exactly like society expects them to be that they don’t have time to be who they really are.
I think that life’s schedule is lame, It’s one big circle of nothing.. People always tell me i have no life because i don’t really go out.. Okay, i do go out.. But going out doesn’t dictate how much of a life I do have.
I think people misinterpret the meaning of actually living, Life isn’t decided by how many friends you have, How many parties you go to, How many stupid decisions you make, Life is decided by how you choose to grow through these decisions.
Which brings me to another point, I hate how some adults automatically assume they know everything there is to know about teenagers because “back in the day” they were teenagers, Yeah well a lot of stuff has changed since YOU were a teenager, And not all teenagers go out every night, party, get drunk, have sex, do drugs, bla bla bla. That’s not a requirement to being a teenager and i think most adults and teens alike don’t realize that.
I am nineteen years old, some people would call me a loser because i don’t have a job, because i’m homeschooled, because i hang out with people who are younger than me, because i don’t go out every damn night. But i live my life just like everyone else, and i don’t think i need to live by the idea that your life is decided by how many shots you can take or how many mistakes you can make as a teenager.
So dont’ do something just because people expect you to, If you don’t wanna go to college, Don’t.. if you don’t want to party, don’t, if you don’t want to spend the rest of your days a bitter mother/father with a lovely taste for alcoholic drinks.. Don’t live by what your told is right, Live by your heart.
All teens are not the same, all adults are not the same.. The sooner we realize this, the sooner we will all stop being at war with each other.. I don’t clam to know everything about life, about reality, about “the real world” But i do, i know a lot more than most people because they never open their eyes, Even if it’s staring them in the face the whole time.
Regardless of what anyone else believes, I believe in myself.. And i will not rot on the floor of my bedroom because i don’t know anything about life. I will rise to the occasion, the challenge, And i hope you do to.
