Small towns, traditions, and the works.
You’d think life in a small town could be simple, pleasant, and maybe even peaceful. Well ,depending on the small town you settle down or happen to be born into, it’s not the case for this particular town; one I will not disclose. Yet. As for myself, I was born into this loathsome place I’ve called home for many a year. Any who; I’m going to fill you in on the dirty little secrets most otherwise wouldn’t.
Coming into a small town you must be aware of one major thing that defines the place you venture into. A term not to be trifled with. A word all too powerful in itself. Tradition. Although some traditions can be tolerable at best. Things such as having the in-laws for thanksgiving, opening a single gift Christmas evening, etc…, but when comes to some of these small town traditions; having the in-laws over seems like heaven. Traditions such as the way one should dress, what they should do for a living, and how you should act. Now you may think those aren’t to bad. Well depending on whether or not you like dressing like a cowboy, working the ranch, and acting like a complete dumb ass/pig. Then chances are you are one of those three things listed. Speaking of dumb ass; I’m brought to trucks.
Trucks are a very important part of the life of my small town. So is black smoking, loud mufflers, and wasting gas revving the engine. One thing they don’t tell you when moving into a town full of trucks is, there will be kids who love to gas it through a neighbourhood at 1 in the morning almost every night, Black smoking at every red light, and the all powerful “whose truck is louder” contest in the parking lots of local grocery stores. All of which get more ignorant with each generation. By now you must be thinking. “what a curmudgeon. Let kids be kids.”. Actually I’ve recently graduated high school and would plan on going to college to be a news paper reporter (which is probably frowned upon here since i should be working the ranch). At first it wasn’t so bad. But when they (being grown men) never grow out of it; it gets to be very redundant.
Well only a glimpse, if that, into MY small town. I do not recommend it at all. UNLESS! You know for a fact non of the above will be the backbone of your peaceful town or you like it. Whether you planned on living in a small town or not; remember! Don’t mess with tradition!
