Jamaica is affectionately called the ROCK by those who live there and have visited promising their return again and again! The island’s beauty is described by Hilary who was born there and wants to share Jamaica with you!

We are 4,442 square miles with 146 long and 51 miles wide. Jamaica is 90 miles from Cuba and 600 away from the famed Miami Beach. Our capital city is Kingston to the southeast of the island and Mont ego Bay to the northwest is an irresistible magnet for the tourists. The island has a mountainous terrain with much of the land rising above 1,000 feet with Blue Mountain Peak at 7,402 feet on its tallest point! We have no winters but from December to March the temperature is cooler at 55.4 degrees than the rest of the months which average 89.6 degrees! Jamaica was first called Xaymaca, land of wood and water, by the Amerindians its settlers. The Europeans fought to own it and the Africans were brought here forcibly while the Asians, Indians, and Middle Easterners came for better living conditions. All have meshed quite well as time progressed to give Jamaica its rich cultural blend attesting to their national motto “Out of many one people”. We were first ruled by the Spanish, 1492-1655, then the British, 1655-1952, then we gained our independence! Port Royal, one of the historic parts of our island was called the “wickedest city in the west”in the seventeenth century! It was inhabited by pirate Sir Henry Morgan and his gang of thieves. Now two thirds of that land lies beneath the sea from an earthquake in 1692! Our island Jamaica has beautiful white sand beaches, attractions and the hospitality of our people is second to none! The scenic views are many with an abundance of places for those favorite pictures. We have given the world our Jamaica Blue Ribbon Coffee, Bob Marley, Reggae music,Usain Bolt, the fastest man on earth, Jamaica jolt (our way of cooking) and many more! Let me hope that you and your family are fine wherever you may be! It’s a cool but sunny day here on my hilltop after a lovely shower of rain last night and heavy dew into this morning! The plants and grass are lush and green as I am surrounded by trees and shrubs and a vibrant splash of color at the steps to my home. My faithful bougainvilleas provide me with year round colors anf Life would be so green without them! Thanks for visiting and we give thanks to God for creating our piece of land called the rock!
