We have choices in life that can help or hurt us. It behooves us to adhere to established morals that can safely guide us through life. Bear in mind that a weakness or failure is not the yardstick by which we measure the quality of life.
Intellectuals may not necessarily have good morals, nor those of average or below average intellect have bad morals. It is strictly a question of character.
There are standards of behavior that must necessarily be the basis of our actions. They are as important as the food we eat in order to sustain our body, except these sustain our mind. Good morals should be considered as a directional compass, showing us the way across the already explored areas of life so that we can establish sound relationships in every field of endeavor. Bad morals do nothing except cause the “ship of life” to sail on an uneven keel, as it tosses on the ocean of uncertainty, with its engine sputtering dangerously before sinking.
How often have we come across those in high places, both in the private sector, as well as government, fall from grace, because of their moral turpitude, taking away their title and authority because of questionable lapses of conduct and behavior. On the hand, there are those that are well- principled, while they set a good example for those to follow and conduct their affairs within the acceptable boundaries of morality.
Character-building begins at home. It develops academically, in schools, colleges and universities, adding to the flavor of learning. It serves as the guiding light that illuminates our intellect and prepares us to exercise our efforts in the way of success in the profession that we choose.
