Chapter 2.
The reader learns in this section about the high school career of the young Linus Pauling. The latter of this chapter is about how he loved his science classes very much, and even assisted the his teachers in some classes. He eventually was unable to graduate from high school though, the reason being that he neglected to take his World History and American History courses and assumed he would take them both in the last semester of his senior year. The school policy did not allow it and he preceded to just take more science classes than ever, knowing he would not graduate.
