Chapter 9.

At this time, the reader learns, the hydrogen bombs were being tested, and people were angry. Linus Pauling wrote a book on the subject called No More War! After writing the book, Linus went around spreading awareness of the issue and trying to raise support for the petition which the United Nations was doing nothing about. While resting after his many travels, Linus fell off a cliff, onto a ledge about 10 feet below, he was not injured, but could not get back up and he had to be rescued. He was later invited into the White House along with about 50 other scientists to talk about the bomb testings at a dinner with the Kennedy’s. Eventually on October 10, 1963, a test-ban treaty was signed with the U.S.A, Britain, and the Soviet Union, the main nuclear powers at the time. On the same day, Linus was selected to win a second Nobel Prize, the first time anyone had ever won a Chemistry Prize and a Peace Prize.
