Longsuffering – patience during troubled times or injury.
Longsuffering, being very patient during times of trouble or injury, is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus demonstrated longsuffering while He was here in the flesh, on earth. (1Tim.1:16) He was betrayed,
beaten, mocked and crucified. He has not yet come again because He does not want anyone to perish. In
this, he demonstrates longsuffering. He wants everyone to repent. (2Pet. 3:9) Because of his longsuffering,
there is salvation to all who choose it, at this present time. Make no mistake, there will come a time when
salvation will no longer be available. Judgment will come. (Heb. 9:27) Living in these troubled times is difficult,
which no one will dispute. God has called us, the elect and holy, to put on longsuffering. (Col. 3:12) We are
to do this with joy. (Col. 1:11) Paul encouraged us to have longsuffering as we carry out the vocation God has
callled each one of us to do. He did this while He was in prison. (Eph. 4:1-2) Timothy’s life style was
characterized by longsuffering as well. (2 Tim. 3:10-11) Jeremiah had longsuffering while coping with his
persecutors. ( Jer. 15:15) There are many other exambles in the Holy Bible that demonstrate longsuffering as
well. Surely, if we adhere to longsuffering, much good will come from it.
