Love, in one form or another, is life’s ruling element. It is the primary source of hope that springs anything real to a man.

Love, in one form or another, is life’s ruling element. It is the primary source of hope that springs anything real to a man.

It may be the love of power or dominion, which, though utterly selfish in its aims and methods, has been most overruled marvelously for good in world history.

It may be the love of knowledge, in the pursuit of which, lives have been lost and fortunes have been spent, but grand secrets have been discovered, secrets that have contributed much for the advancement of humanity.

But the love that is grander than any other, before other elements of civilization pale and dwarf in comparison and in utter significance, which is powerful today as in the morning of time, which will continue to rule until the end of everything, is the indefinable, indescribable, ever fresh and beautiful love of a child and a mother. It is the love that has the power to tame a savage heart, that that teaches him to be a refined and courteous gentleman, that transforms a bashful girl to a woman of matchless power of innate goodness.

Love is the great instrument of nature, the bond and cement of any society, and the spirit and the spring of the universe. It is an affection that cannot be defined properly by wit but by the soul. It is the whole human nature that is wrapped in one desire.

Love is the sun of life, most beautiful in the morning and in the evening but warmest at noon. It purifies the heart. It strengthens and ennobles character, gives higher motives and nobler aims to every action of life. It is courageous to devote truly. It is the noblest gift that a human can be endowed.

This is really beautiful! I especially like the later paragraphs. I love this line: “Love is the sun of life, most beautiful in the morning and in the evening but warmest at noon.”

Paul and Liane, Thank you very much for your very warm comments. Also, thank you for reading my article. Cheers!

I have been contented with love as the habit of willing the good of others. But with the paragraphs of your marvelous essay, I have remembered that there can be love for things as well.
The second paragraph provokes me. Can someone love something so much that it is no longer love if we agree that only good springs from love?

  • Alixander Haban Escote on Jun 21, 2008

Hi, Mark, in Moulin Rouge, briliant poet Christian (Ewan McGregor) said, The greatest thing you will ever learn is just to love and to be loved. So, keep on loving, keep on living! Cheers!

Sir, I have never thought that love can be actually described in this way. Whenever people ask my own definition of it, I usually find myself speechless. I could not find the right words to express all my ideas about love. All I know is that it is the most wonderful feeling one can ever experience. It brings joy and pain at the same time. Thus, oftentimes, we find love incomprehensible and unpredictable.

  • Alixander Haban Escote on Jun 24, 2008

Marian, keep on loving, keep on living! Cheers! Thank you for visiting our blog and reading my article.

Wow. Love is something that could truly change someone\’s heart. It is quite unfathomable. But if your heart loves truly, whatever that kind of love that is, you will experience the satisfaction in giving.

By the way, mothers don\’t only know the best. They LOVE in the best way one could ever imagine. God Bless!

  • Alixander Haban Escote on Jun 28, 2008

Yes, Jeb, I do believe that love is that powerful. And it will really give profound joy to the giver. Love is among the few things that you will not lose no matter how much you give.

    Cheers to all the mothers!

Sir, this is so beautiful. I know that love is a word commonly used to express fondness towards another person, but sadly, the love which is the most generous, the most loving of all loves, is the one most often ignored. I know this, for I am a mama’s boy. I know that while other kids play around and hang out with their friends, their mothers continuously work hard to make them happy. This is a very fine essay sir. It should be read by all mothers. A great tribute to the loving entity we all call mom.

Sir, you defined love as the love that is very universal. it is not the kind of love that came from the i-love-you\’s of peole. It is love that can only be seen by another who felt that kind of love. A wonderful piece, Sir.

  • Jonah Aileen Oliva Reyes on Jul 5, 2008

I agree with you sir. The love that is found between a mother and child can never be defeated by any form of love. Love makes a man complete, rather it is a reason a man came into existence. You have inspired me sir. You awaken people’s mind.

Sir, I find this one a very interesting article to read. Now I know that what Erine said about love is true. She defined love as the most complicated thing on earth. And base on what I have just read, it really it is. Love can be defined in so many ways because love can be expressed in different ways.

  • Zatia Denise Danao Gammad on Jul 6, 2008

I always question how love can be defined for no matter what the circumstances we’ve come across, it heals the wounds yet resembles the vivid memory of the pain. It’s complicated to control yet it is easy to hold. I found some of my questions answered by this post but it leaves me asking more about love. Love has been described beautifully in this post. I hope a lot more people would get a chance to read this. Great post, sir!

Sir, I guess, you have been really raised by your mother with much love and affection. The greatest love, here on Earth, is the love of a mother and a child. What an inspirational article. Cheers!

  • Maria Beatrice Camille Valencia Gaviola on Jul 9, 2008

Sir, this is such a beautiful piece, and I was truly moved. I do believe that the greatest, unending love is that between a mother and her child. Sometimes we forget, but this kind of love forgives all wrongdoings and shortcomings. It overcomes all obstacles. It surpasses all other things.
I have just finished reading For One More Day by Mitch Albom, and I must say that it is a very touching story. It is about this guy who gives up on others, on himself, on life. And only one thing can get through to him… his mother and her love for him. To everyone, you guys have to read it!

When I opened this article, I never meant to read it. But as I scanned the positive comments, I got curious. It is amazing how you described love in so many ways. I liked the love between the child and the mother,I wish that my mom\’s love could transform a rampant daughter to a sophisticated woman. How I wish.

  • Jezel Christine Nolasco Quevada on Aug 1, 2008

Sir, this article may be short compared to your other writings but it is well-written and it explains the indefinable meaning of LOVE. I truly agree with you sir that love is the ruling element of life. According to 1 Corinthians 13, love is the greatest among the other theological virtues: faith, and hope. It can really move mountains and do the impossible. Indeed, it is what our world needs now. I also agree with you that the most important love in this world is that of a child and a mother for nothing else could ever surpass to it. Oh, how I wish love could melt and touch even the toughest hearts of men today and that somehow, we may catch the spirit of love between a mother and a child.

Powerful, beautiful, and lovely. A wonderful tribute to love. Excellent job on describing a basic component of life that is often difficult to define.
