An article on love, explaining what love is and what it is not, ideal for reading by those looking for the meaning of love.

What is love? Where did love originate from? Can I truly love some one who does not love me? These and many more questions about love, loving and being loved are bothering many people today. As we daily endeavor to love and look for love, there are important facts about love we need to clearly understand. It is upon such understanding we can be able to find answers to these important life question. The following facts about love can help provide the much sought answers.

Love is about giving and not necessarily receiving.

It is a fact that love is more about giving than receiving. We so much endeavor to be loved than we do to love others. Love is expressed when a heart opens to others. An act of wanting others to feel that we are there for them. In showing His eternal love for humanity God gave Jesus to be the savior of man, through his death on the cross for our sins. (John 3:16). God is the greatest giver; the greatest gift He gave was Jesus and life everlasting through him. We can’t give like God does but we can follow His example and be ready to give to others as God enables us. How many people have come your way with needs you can meet but thought like you don’t have a lot so you won’t give? It is a known fact that you can not give what you don’t have. When God allows the needy to come our way, He wants us to give from within the means that we have. Just share what you have, be it time, listening to others, clothes, money etc.

The secret of love is loving the unlovable

To the human mind, it is logical just to love those who are lovable. We are inclined to love those that do well to us and shun those who offend us. Jesus gave this subject a revolutionary approach when He asked, “What reward have you, if you only love those who love you..?”Mathew 5:43-46. When God expressed his love for us, we were not lovable. Indeed we were sinners fit for eternal damnation. Unlovable as we were, God loved us and expressed His love to us so vividly. Likewise those among us who look unlovable because of the horrible states of life, we should love them. Various people come into our lives and we avoid them yet these are opportunities presented to us to show them love.
