Madison, Wisconsin – A chief forester turns himself to police and pays $236 fine because he shot a hen turkey out of season.
Hunting and accidents do happen, and lying is one thing. But turning yourself in is out of the question. It’s not sheer stupidity that pushed this man, Paul DeLong to admit his crime (which is indeed a crime, hunting out of season and all that) it’s called being a law abiding citizen. Though it still sounds kinda stupid.
Paul DeLong admitted he mistakenly shot a clump of feathers, which he thought was a “beard.” It turns out to be a hen turkey and a not just any male bird or bear that hunter’s can hunt legally. Lawfully a good example. It’s called being honest.
After the incident, DeLong approaches Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources’ Forestry Division, turns himself in, and pays a $236 fine for hunting off season. To make matter’s worse, DeLong just happens to be working for DNR, said DNR Chief Warden Randy Stark.
Paul says to set a good example, he wanted to take full responsibility of his error and asked to be treated like any ordinary offender.
