How can busy students manage?

Today, many students find themselves needing either a personal assistant or an event coordinator to manage their personal and academic life.  While attending college, most students learn that juggling is a part of their day.  They begin to do a balancing act that is pretty unbelievable.  Most college student’s day consists of working eight hours and attending class for approximately six hours , which is an average of three days a week.  In between this time they must find time to eat a balanced meal, return or make calls, pick-up or drop the kids off at the babysitters or centers, attend meetings or doctors appointments.  This leaves little time for the busy mom, dad or caretaker to sleep etc.

Homemakers, students, professional and entertainers learn interpersonal skills such as time management conflict resolution and stress management to progress and obtain a healthy life experience and skills.  Anyone with these valuable skills can easily obtain a relate and successful life.  People who don’t learn these skills live overwhelmingly frustrating, depressed and lonely lives.

Luckily, many  college campuses and offices recognize this demand and personal challenge we adults face and have prepared their environment to accommodate the needs.   At most college campus the administrative offices have identified this need and offer support to the campus communities.  Old and young adults can obtain a stress free environment alone with support , services, workshops and seminar that will raise awareness in managing these personal skills.  Some campus have Adult Re-entry and Women’s Center that offer assistance in managing many student’s personal needs.

These centers are where mature students with busy schedules can find resources, referrals, support groups  or simply quiet time for studying.   Many center/offices have training centers or lab where students can discover new skills and techniques in managing their personal and academic life.

  • Take a workshop in time management at least once a year, the techniques do change.
  • Schedule time to be alone or do what you want/need to do for yourself.  Ex. Treat yourself to a SPA!
  • Listen to your body language.  When it come to stress take action.  Find stress relievers such as exercise or listening to relaxing music.
  • Share household responsibilities with family members.  Make a schedule and incorporate all members of the household into the plan.  Ex Grandma can pick the kids up, the kids can rotate days to wash the dishes during the week and adult can wash the dishes on the weekend.
  • Seek new ways to solve time management problems by reading books and by participating in active discussions on the topics.
  • Managing your time, activities and people you love can be a great challenge.  However, the rewards can be tremendously fulfilling.  Communicating the important changes in your life with loved ones in a timely manner can make managing the juggling act a wonderful life experience.
