I see that the planet is made up of  bunch of people who jump up and down and make a lot of noise thinking that their control is ultimate. All one has to do is see how some world leaders go in and out of the limelight they generate as their prowess wanes. Extend that thought to company heads who are seemingly invincible until they realize that their inventions are nothing compared to what superior civilizations could have generated. You now have a backdrop for a story Nelson Bond wrote suggesting  how we could be duped by superior beings.

There may be a visitor at your door feigning interest in getting your project off the ground  and the risk may be that the person may be be someone who you are unable to deal with because he has an unlimited source of knowledge. Such was the case in this short story s  company head searched for whoever could invent  system of keeping an airship afloat in a singular spot.

 A stranger came calling and put the spaceship project into motion by building it according to company specifications . He had to deal with the director’s arrogance doubting that the ship would ever take off when suddenly it did. The earth appeared like a dot with only the owner and inventor aboard.. to the surprise of the comapny head, the inventor turned out to be a Martian just wanting to use the man for his wealth so he could return back to his planet of origin.

 The company director thought he could control the building of  spaceship such that he would then build a fleet and return to conquer the earth. He thought he was invincible that world power would soon be in his grasp. That was until he discovered his inventor was wearing something from outer space and there was no turning back.

 If there are other intelligent beings around us, then perhaps stories like this are excellent reminders that our control is quite futile in fact it my even be seen as infantile. But people like this company head will continue to sprout thinking that the world is theirs to control when we haven’t even been to the moon twice in the forty years that the first landing was reported to have occurred.
