I remember when as a little boy my parents took me to all kinds of parades! The Macy’s Easter Parade was my favorite one because my Dad painted those huge balloons that flew high above the crowds from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he was an upcoming "artist/designer"
of his time in the 50’s! The Memorial Day Parade held no significance to me at that time….It was just another parade!

Memorial Day is celebrated on the last Monday in May this year being Monday, May 30th, 2011!  It was originally called Decoration Day and first celebrated in Waterloo, New York in 1911! *A bit of trivia….. My Dad, Raymond William Losier, was born on 12/12/12 the next year.

This solemn day was officially made into law in 1968 when Congress passed a law making 3 separate holidays into 3 day affairs by making a specific Monday the holiday!  Memorial Day is one!

Though Summer technically falls on June 21st every year it is celebrated as the beginning of the Summer season each Memorial Day!

There are special flag placement ceremonies commemorating the lives lost to keep our country free at Arlington National Cemetery and all burial places around the United States and the planet!

Parades are held with horses, floats and the feeling of happiness {for the children who know no better, like I was}, looky loo fun seeking spectators and legions of men and women who survived the perils of war marching down the street!

Memorial Day is a significant day in the annals of time because it honors each and every one of our Family. Friends and some still unknown who laid down their lives so America can and still to this very day remain FREE!
