Leading coal-Producing states.
Mining is big business in the Southeast.Coal is plentiful in the Appalachians.More coal is mined in the state of Kentucky than in any other state in the United States. Some of the coal carried by railroad to the seaports along the Atlantic coast. From there it is shipped to Japan and other countries for use in their industries.Others shipments of coal are sent to Birmingham,Alabama,to be used in making steel.
