As mobile technology develops, some social debates erupt. It’s been in the news for some time now and parents and children are protesting against it the ban on mobile phones in schools. How should the matter of mobile phones in schools be handled? The answer is banning students from using mobile phones in school.

Phones should not be permitted at school because they can be distracting to learning. Most teachers would agree with me when I say that it is annoying when a phone goes off in class or when you see kid’s texting each other right in the middle of a lesson. Grades on report cards have been gradually getting around the D and E mark. This is because kids aren’t listening to their teacher when they explain something important for tests or assignments. A test was done to see whether students were distracted from phones or if something else was distracting them. The results that were recorded showed that kids with phones had less notes, homework and tasks completed than the students without phones. Mobiles could also be a potential tool for cheating. In a test students could pull out their mobile and text someone “What is the answer to question 2?”

Phones can also be dangerous to kid’s health because of the microwave radiation that they can produce. Mental diseases as well as physical diseases can be developed. A year ago someone was diagnosed with microwave radiation sickness because they were on their phone too much. The person had to go through chemotherapy and other treatments to try and get it away. This happened to an adult just imagine what would happen if it was a student!

Mobile phones are usually worth over $100 and not every family can afford to buy one for their child. This would mean that there would be a lot of stealing going on in the school and schools wouldn’t take responsibility for the loss of mobile phones. Any expensive items brought into school increases the risk of theft. The fewer expensive or desirable items a child brings to school, the safer he or she is from potential thieves and the associated risks of physical assault. Schools can always provide extra measures to help students protect personal property, but that means more expense.

If students were allowed phones at school there could be a lot of cyber bullying going on as it is a lot easier to bully through electronic communications like a phone because the bully does not have to be standing in front of the victim. Here is a reason why mobiles should not be allowed. A couple of months ago a girl from America had killed herself because of mean messages that were sent to her phone. Her parents were heart broken and had no idea that she was getting bullied. The only reason that a student should have a phone at school is if they have special permission from the principal of the school because of a certain medical condition.

In conclusion students should not have mobiles at school. There would be a major difference in the community. Grades would be going up as well as students concentrating a lot harder in class. This would make everyone a lot happier since students wouldn’t be getting depressed. New technologies are a part of our lives, and responsible use should be learned in school. This is the solution to the problem of mobiles at school.
