This is the speech I would give if I was in the position of President of The United States of America during the time that WWII started.
Hello, my fellow citizens of America. Today, I am here to inform you about current crisis because it is your right to know. I understand your feelings and will guide you through this darkness in a time of much needed wisdom. The last thing anyone wanted was a second World War, but unfortunately, the world is already in too deep to say that there isn’t. So we must stay closely knit in this rough time because strength comes with our numbers and unanimous support.
Now I will briefly overview what has happened thus far and why the world is in the spot it is now. Several events have happened since World War I that other nations have not agreed with – most specifically Germany.
First of all, the very treaty that stopped one world war has started another, The Treaty of Versailles of 1919. As said in the Treaty, Germany was forced to give up their weapons of war, colonies in Africa, islands in the Pacific, and other territory located in Europe. In addition, a large sum of $33 billion dollars as reparations for starting the war was demanded. Obviously, Germany is not very happy about what has been taken from them.
Several actions were taken to create peace such as with the creation of the League of Nations, an organization to prevent wars in the future. In 1926, Germany joined the League of Nations, but later withdrew in 1933, when Hitler began his brainwash of Germany’s citizens. Also, the Washington Conference of 1922 was an agreement that the US, Great Britain, Japan, Italy, and France would discontinue the construction of battleships for ten years. In the London Naval Conference, the ban was continued and to an even further extent as well. In addition, the Kellogg-Briand Pact, a promise that signers will settle disputes peacefully without war as a national policy had been created.
In 1922, Benito Mussolini and his following fascist party gained control of Italy and its government. They spent large amounts of money on militarizing themselves with an army, navy, and air force. Ones who disagreed were dealt with harshly and even killed. In 1935, Italy attacked Ethiopia simply to gain more land to create an Italian empire. They also invaded Albania in 1939. There was nothing the League of Nations did about it.
In 1931, Japan invaded Manchuria, violating the League of Nations and Kellogg-Briand Pact. Once again, there was nothing the other countries could really do about it rather than protest. Japan soon began to fall away completely from the League of Nations and other groups that prevented them from expanding their military and advancing as an empire. Other nations began to up their military in size due to the Japanese increase as a precautionary action. In 1937, Japan decided to invade China solely for resources and more territory.
Hitler and his Nazis came to power in Germany in 1933 because he promised the Germans their old land back along with the other privileges that were lost due to the Treaty of Versailles. He promised the people strength and power. Ones who disagreed were dealt with harshly and even killed. Hitler called for the factories to begin creating weapons of war again, violating the Treaty of Versailles. Germany began to take over surrounding countries like a wildfire. Poland was attacked by Hitler’s armies in 1939 and thus the war begins. Great Britain and France have decided to side with Poland and fight off the Nazis, declaring war on Germany.
As I speak, the Nazis are taking over more and more of Europe and Asia and it seems like nothing can stop them. They have already taken over a large majority of Europe, except for a suffering Great Britain. Japan has invaded Indochina and is spreading as well. After two years of fighting, the Axis powers are clearly winning this fight and the Allied powers need our help.
As president of the United States of America, I am declaring war upon the Axis powers and the Nazi movement. We are the only ones who can stop the Nazis from taking over the rest of Europe and moving on to us. I am completely against the views of the Nazis; what they are doing is wrong and is a crime against the rest of the world. After several violations of treaties and pacts, the Axis powers needs to be stopped and put in their place. I know I cannot please everyone but please trust me as this is the best way that America can choose to go. Our men and women are strong and can force the Nazis back to where they belong; off of the face of the Earth.
