My Experiences and memories of 9-11.

As I sat in the church sanctuary, I watched a memorial video clip of 9-11.  The images on the screen triggered such strong emotions in me.  Tears rolled down my face, and memories and images began to come alive.  Stuff I can honestly say I never mentioned to anyone.  Ten years later, and I never realized that I never shared this with anyone.  The video clip went on and it was a beautiful video.  My experience wasn’t as horrific as some other people but I knew it was my time to share them with everyone.

It was early Tuesday morning.  I had an 8:30am meeting on the 64th floor of Tower 1 and I was running a little late.  Usually I wore sneakers and then changed into my work shoes, but I knew I would be heading to the meeting before the office, so I had my work shoes on.  Running was not an option.  Speed walking through the Towers courtyard trying to rush to get to the main entrance; my phone rang.  When I picked it up, my co-worker informed me the meeting had been cancelled and I should go directly to the office.  Happy because I was running late anyway, I turned left in the courtyard right before entering Tower 1.  The company I worked for had a building right across the street, so it was just a hop skip and jump from where I was.

My office was on the 64th floor of the building and from my window I could see Tower 2 followed by Tower 1.  It was a magnificent view.  I had just gotten settled at my desk when there was a huge explosion of some kind, the building trembled and swayed.  Everyone was startled especially me since many people began swarming into my office to see out the window.  From where we stood we could see the smoke, flames and debris and papers flying all over the place but we could not actually see what had happened to the Tower.  The phone on my desk rang and I rushed to pick it up.  It was my husband asking if I was OK.  Oddly enough, he worked on Staten Island and would have been on the ferry on his way to work, but he remained home because he was not feeling well.
