A writers hobby based on the love of words.

I have a book of words.  True, I do have a dictionary and a thesaurus.  But, I have another book of words.  A detailed book of words.  Words that I like.  Words that I forget to use.  Words that are important or striking to me.

I often find myself reading a book or magazine article or even a blog and a word will hit me in the mind and grab my attention. Sometimes I can be having a conversation with someone and that person will use a word that strikes me.  I often find myself making a mental note or sometimes even secretly typing the word into my phone or scribbling it on a scrap of paper found in my pocket.  I’ll make little Post-it notes and scribbles to remind myself to remember a word.  Of course, these post-its and scraggles of paper eventually end up as a book mark, grocery list, to-do list or clutter on its way to the trash.

So, I started my own book.  A cute little hard-backed notebook.  It’s decorative with pretty, stationary type pages within. The perfect place for my words.  My words in my own little book.  Some of them more common such as cacophony and some a little less common words such as acerbic.

My hobby.  My book.  My words.

I used to have one of these too. I wonder if I can find the time to start one yet again. Great piece of writing, you have a wonderful hobby.

I am glad I read this today. I have been trying to come up with some type of hobby for myself and I think this would be interesting to try.
