A Norman narrative I created…

Jess and Lucas

The year is 1066, The Anglo-Saxons control Britain. All of the citizens must follow Saxon Law, and almost all of Britain is Christian.

We start our story with a few children, named Jess & Lucas, they are siblings, and love adventure. There adventure shall start here…

Chapter 1

Good Morning

“Wake up Children!” Yelled Jess & Lucas’s Mother, “You need to do your chores, the Cow wont milk itself”

Jess woke up first, and whacked Lucas on the head, yelling “c’mon Lucas we have to milk the cow, you know how angry Mother will be if Milky goes dry!”

Lucas got up, swearing words that if he’s mother heard he’d get a nasty whack, or terrible punishment.

The two children got up and walked out of there bedroom. Lucas was older then Jess, at 13 years of age he was starting to get taller & stronger, Jess on the other hand was 11, still quite small.

They walked outside into there small paddock, and Milky was waiting for them. They got the bucket from the small shed and went back to Milky.

“Mother will be happy with today’s load.” Lucas said as squeezed one last time. “And to think we thought Milky would run outta milk by the end of last year, weren’t we wrong” Laughed Jess.

When they finished Milking Milky, they had some food, burnt bread and curdled milk, they didn’t enjoy it, but it was the best her mother could provide for her.

There father worked over a 19 day walk away, meaning they would only see him twice a year. He earned only a mere 6 shillings a year, which only just kept them alive.

Chapter 2

Lucas and Jess’s favourite Spot

After breakfast Jess and Lucas ran off into the countryside, towards there favourite spot. When they arrived they could do nothing else but to gaze upon it.

It was beautiful, there was a large rock which they would climb upon and look at the beautiful sunrise over the large mountains on the Horizon.

If the turned around, they’d see the miraculous sea, and every evening they’d run back and look at the sun setting over the sea.

Lucas and Jess sat for half an hour, staring at the beautiful sunrise, when the sun had raised, Jess said “we had better go now.” As they stood up and started towards home, they noticed a small blur on the horizon across the sea.
