My Prayer for the Country’s Leaders

Eternal King, immortal and invisible, the only God and Creator, as you alone in your omnipotence govern with love and justice the affairs of men, in your name I join with people of many faiths to implore your mercy— to heal our weariness and broken spirits and to uphold our hope in our leaders. You alone with your divine guidance can make us and our leaders understand how to live, for you are our Light.

Give our leaders the wisdom, strength and prudence to govern and lead us. Strengthen their faith and humility to dedicate and consecrate their power in the service of your people, to preserve, protect, and defend the law of the land.

Teach them your way, so that whatever they do and wherever they are, it is your hand that leads them. Guide and guard their footsteps so they may walk in your command and trust you with undivided heart while fearing your name. As you are mightiest of all, we invoke your love and mercy to protect and guide them as they tackle their ever-increasing burden and battle their way for righteousness and world brotherhood. Make them strong to execute their duties, willing to heed your will. Let them remember always that there is only one use and purpose of power — to serve the people.

Shine your face upon us that we may be saved, for there is no security apart from your power. To you, Lord and Eternal Fortress, be honor and glory ever and ever. Amen. ###
