NASA sent a rocket today Friday morning on 10/9/2009 to slam into the moons surface at the south pole in the hope that they might discover ice.

A probe will follow four minutes later flying into the impact cloud and gather data and send this back to NASA before it also smashes into the moon as well.

The first thing that comes to mind to me is Why?. Really What are we going to gain by this to know if the moon has ice in it. It’s not likely that we will ever live on the moon. If the moon did support life at one time well OK But it does not now. Let’s worry about the planet that does support life EARTH. Back to the rocket NASA sends this rocket into a big crater. How do they know if this impact crater was caused by an asteroid or a comet? If it was caused by a comet well they are made up mainly of ice and this would not tell us truly if the  moon had flowing liquid water on it. The surface is not a vary good source either not when you look at it’s surface it is just riddled with impact craters all over it probably from asteroids and comets over billions of years. It makes me wounder how many millions NASA spent on this project to gather some dust. If NASA wants to explore the moon more spend more money in developing robotics and robotic astronauts that can stay for long periods of time and do deeper space exploration. Do we really need to mess with the moon by blowing things up into it it does have an influence on the earth.
