Nothing But The Truth Essay.

Nothing But The Truth
1.    I believe in Nothing But the Truth the truth would of changed of changed Philip’s situation in many ways. If Philip would of   told the truth to the newspaper and didn’t lie about singing.   I think this would of changed Philip’s situation  because the press wouldn’t have published the paper because it would seem that he wasn’t just being patriotic.    Another truth that could of effected the story greatly is if he said that he was actually humming obnoxiously instead of singing like he said he was. I think this would of   changed the story and people would of believed he was actually being disrespectful of our nation.   Another point in the story where the truth got twisted and would of changed the story would have been where Philip said he was being patriotic when he was plotting against Mrs. Narwin to get out of her homeroom. I believe this would of stopped Philip’s story from  going national and stopped the humiliation from going nation wide and he could of stayed at his own school.
There are many parts of the book where Mrs. Narwin’s self image is attacked by a twisted lie. One of these lies is that she brought on the suspension when she debated was not the best way to deal with Philip’s problems. I believe that if  this truth would have been known from the start Mrs. Narwin might  not  have resigned from her teaching.    Another truth that got twisted that effected this book was that Mrs. Narwin was trying to stop Philip’s  patriotism when she was just trying to  maintain control of her class. I believe like the first one if this truth would have been told Mrs. Narwin might have not resigned. The last major truth that got twisted was  that Philip was suspended for singing the national anthem when he was really suspended for ignoring a teacher and creating a disturbance. I believe if this truth would of  been told this scandal would not have even started.
2.    I believe the main conflict of this story is against Mrs. Narwin and trying to get out of her class. I believe this has a snowball effect and there are many examples of it in this book. To start the snowball effect Philip first tells the lie about how it was out of patriotism the singing he was doing. Then it escalates when he gets suspended to when he first goes to the newspaper reporter. Then the snowball continues when they start  interviewing people on different sides of the story. The snowball almost doubles in size when the story hit’s the radio  talk show and the national news. Then Mrs. Narwin and Philip are bombarded with letter about their opinion of the story. Then it reaches its climax when Philip cant even go to school and has to move away and Mrs. Narwin resigns. This is why I believe this  book has a snowball effect.
3.    I believe the climax of this book is when Philip finally asks Mrs. Narwin for extra credit. I believe this is the climax because  it’s the turning point where Philip realizes he still needs  to raise his grades to join the track team. I also believe this is the climax of the book because this is where Philip finally confronts Mrs.  Narwin after he raised the lie that turned into a scandal that  attacked Mrs. Narwin’s  self image. This is also when Philip starts regretting what he did and  realizes he’s in the same position before the scandal. This is why I believe that this is the climax of the story.
4.    In this book there are many different types of charters. Some of these charters are fully developed or not fully developed and some change while others stay the same.   Philip from my perspective is round or fully developed character and is dynamic. I believe this because he is not only the main character but his life  is completely written out and you know almost everything about him. I believe he is dynamic because he has a few epiphanies like when he realized he was going to need to ask for extra credit from Mrs. Narwin. I believe that both Philips parents are flat and static. I believe this because you do not get to know much about them but they do however back Philip’s  patriotic lies throughout the book.  I believe that Mrs. Narwin is round and is dynamic. Think this because throughout the book we learn a lot about her life and her chooses. I believe she is dynamic because she believes she knows why Philip is acting out but later in the book she doesn’t understand why he would do such a thing.   I believe that both Dr. palleni and Dr.
Doane are both flat and static because throughout the book you only get their opinions and they think the same think that Philip is acting out because of a problem at his house.
5.    I believe that the consequences for both Philip and  Mrs. Narwin
