INTRODUCTION:

Submarine would be the perfect word for the world inside the water.All the credit goes to this monstrous machine to have tonnage of perished shipwreck lying in the sea bed.Submarine warfare has been termed as guerrilla war at sea.When the submarines first went to the sea the early 20Th century,they immediately recognized as an extraordinary threat.After the long way of evolution & technical development,today’s submarine can be regarded as a platform,armed with short to long range conventional and non-conventional weapons.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:

These machines dominated the sea in World War-II era.The German submarines fleet ,better known as “U Boats” is recorded as inventor of “Wolf Pack” tactics,whereby a bunch of submarines suddenly attacks the allied ships and vanishes them.Soon the sea warfare saw a variety of submarines employed on numerous roles.

Birth Of Nuclear Submarine:

Nuclear submarines had certain distinct characteristics,which revolutionized the underwater warfare.In the first nuclear submarines did not need refuelling due to which it can remain submerged in water for definite periods.Secondly it can attain very high speeds under water as compared to battery powered submarines and could obtain high speed at the cost of stored battery power.Due to this limitations,it did not have the liberty to operate underwater at high speeds for long time.Where as there is no speed issues in nuclear submarines.

    Nuclear submarines are difficult to find and kill.Their importance kept increasing as range and accuracy of ballistics missiles.When both sides have their ballistic missiles based on fixed land sites,the initiative of first launch open to anyone.However,when one of launch pad is located underwater,the initiatives automatically shifts to the underwater launch pad.First the location of launch pad would be unknown,secondly underwater launch pad would vanish after achieving the kill.

  By all dimensions,the capabilities these submarines are matchless,and need no elaboration.
