After the terriost attack during 9/11, there was a lot of fear and confusion. Many people still accosate muslims with the attack and they face a lot of discrimanation. So when plans of a new mosque only three blocks away, the family members of the victims of the attack protested.  President Obama ,who made this annoncement during a dinner with muslims during the holy month of Ramadan, said as a citizen of americia is a right to have religious freedom. He agrees that ground zero is hallowed ground but the americian government must be seen as being fair to everyone, despite race or religion. Major michael bloomberg also supports the scheame.

 But their is a lot of opposition. It has caused an national uproar over religious freedom and is one of the crucial debaiting points before the november elections. Sarah Palin, the former republician vice-president, also opposes this and urges peace-seeking muslims to reject this. Others have also opposed the move, including the new york governer republician candidate and the Anti-Defamation League, a jewish group. This has outrages some liberal jews.
