Old stuff on Triond is worth reading, too. You might want to go through your friends older articles from time to time to read older articles or to reread them. Or you might use the search function when writing an article of your own and include old related materials to what you are currently doing.

Being a member of Triond is not only a possibility to write, to get comments, it is also a possibility to read. Reading other people’s older articles may help you in several ways to get your writing to become better; it opens your eyes to the styles other writers use and it might bring you ideas for articles or poems to write.

A second feature to use on Triond is the Explore button in the top menu. When you are writing an article it is worth the while to go and browse what others had to say about the content you are working on. Sometimes you find articles that highlight a specific aspect and save you elaborating on it, you might just send people over to the older article of another writer; sometimes somebody has a completely different view on the case you want to make, it is worth while sending people there to make up their minds on their own views; and sometimes a writer approaches a theme from a different angle from you, which might help people understand something looking at it differently.

Reading old stuff enhances you, your writing, and including old good stuff makes your articles more rewarding for the reader who wants to know more. Make those links, it is not only a way to help members of the Triond family, it is enriching what you have to say about something.

I have browsed through the writings of my friends to find some articles I might have missed, and I want to show you some stuff I really liked:

My first choice is a poem I liked a lot and which set me to making one or two poems on my own:

House Became a Home by Greyian Storm. I like this piece so much because it is in its shortness so comprehensive. Read it, it might give you some ideas to write poetry about things that moved you and changed your life or enriched it.

My second choice is an article I liked because it is amusing no matter how old it gets:

Remember When Lighting Up a Camel Was the Best Thing in the World? by Hein Marais.

My next choice is the very first article on Triond of one of my favourite writers. If you want to know what style can do for you, then I recommend you to read not only this short story, but loads and loads of what he writes:

Sick Man in Athens by Rask Balavoine.

An interesting view might be part of a general problem exposed by current events. The following article might give you some ideas for researches you could do:

Internet Access and Censorship by Peter Stone.

My final choice is a writer who has a lot to offer in general advice, but also in beautiful pictures. A browse through her profile, her writings, and her pictures could be very rewarding to you as well:

Wise Decisions by Bren Parks.

I hope that my pointers will give you wings of your own; if they don’t, go through your friends writing, and if you still are stuck for ideas, use the Triond Explore function, it’s magic!

Thanks for writing this, Lucas. It is very true that Triond is a gold mine and a reference on certain subjects. Thanks for viewing my articles too.

Thanks, I’ve found that when you’re new to Triond the best place to look for info is on the Explore page.

    Jamie.

I TOTALLY agree with you, some old stuff is completely forgotten because everyone likes the new. No one wants to do the old. But I agree, it is a good thing to look at old stuff because it is as good as the new to a different reader. Good point and some good choices of example.

You\’re right. Writers also have to keep updating and promoting their old stuff or they\’ll sink to the bottom of cyberspace.

You are right, you will never want for something to read if you read new articles and look back to the older ones. It’s a treasure trove.
