Have you ever asked for a lift in the rain? A young ma did last month in Yugoslavia and he ended up with a broken leg. This is how it happened. He was walking along a country road in the rain when he asked for a lift from an open lorry. There was a long narrow box in the back of the lorry and the young man sat on it for some minutes before he realized it was a coffin. After that he sat on the wet floor of the lorry and watched the wet roads, the wet trees and the wet countryside and was very miserable. Suddenly he was frightened to see that the coffin was opening slowly and a hand was coming out. Then a voice from the coffin said: “Has it stopped raining yet?”. The young man was so frightened by this that he jumped from the lorry with a shout while it was still moving fast and broke his leg.

    Later it turned out that the man in the coffin was also hitchhiking. He had got into the coffin to get out of the rain. The young man sued the lorry-driver and the man in the coffin and won. The judge said only dead people must be put into coffins.
