Parkour (English: the art of moving) is a non competitive physical discipline of French origin. Parkour consists to run along a long route attempting to deal with obstacles in the best an most efficient way possible, like moving in an emergency, using skills such as running, jumping, climbing, or the more specific parkour moves. Two primary characteristics of parkour are efficiency and speed. The goal is to get from one place to another using only the human body and the objects in the environment surrounding you. The obstacles can be anything that the environment has. Parkour is mostly seen practiced in urban areas, like a city, because of the suitable public structures that are accessible to most people, such as buildings, rails, or constructions. Parkour is most often practiced outdoors, usually without spectators, and is not considered to be performance oriented.

The official definition from the American Parkour website says, “Parkour is the physical discipline of training to overcome any obstacle within ones path by adapting ones movements to the environment.
