Was the world peaceful during our childhood or was the peace inside because we could not understand?

Very often, when we are depressed or feeling down, we take refuge in going back to our childhood memories. We feel so much peace and warmth relaxing our troubled soul. We close our eyes and think “I wish I can go back as a child”.

However, the question is, was the world more peaceful then. No wars, no opression taking place somewhere in the world. May be to a certain extent the world was less troubled. But there has always been wars around. People dying and others starving. The only difference was that, we as chidlren were not aware of it. This is why our own world was so peacfull. The peace was inside us because we were not old enough to comprehend the troubles around us.

Perhaps these days, more than ever, we all wish like to go back as children again. Because then we would not have to worry about the wars in Iraq, Somalia, Palestine and Lebanon. We would not have to care about the starving people in Ethiopia, Sudan or the new diseases that are emerging everyday in our, so called, modern civilised world.

However, since it is not possible to go back as children we just have to do what we have always been doing since reaching adulthood. Revert back to our chidhood memories, and for a short time live the peace and serenity that of which we cannot find in our reality.

You’re right, as children we usually do not know what’s going on around us..

So true…sad that it’s necessary to need the escape.

You got the answer right. It’s both, the world was more peacefull back then and as kids, we weren’t aware of what was going on.
