A rant on my pet hates.
In my rant-filled mind, I started today to compile a list of my pet hates. Because I can’t just have one…oh no, I have to have a long list of them. I’m quite interested to see other people’s pet hates also, and their reasoning for these, so please feel free to comment and add your own pet hates.
1) Slugs. I really despise them. Part of me thinks it’s wrong to hate a creature, as it’s not really done anything insipid… but they are slimy, and the way that they move just disturbs me.
2) Neglectful parents. I work as a TA for a teaching agency, mainly in special needs schools or in places that provide education for kids that were permanently excluded from their schools. And the amount of times I hear about parents who neglect their kids…and I’m not just talking about not bothering to adequately feed them and things like that. Even something like teaching their kids to respect others, to develop self-worth, and strive to succeed…the amount of people I’ve come across that have parents that either don’t give a monkeys, or are so anti-social themselves that they are awful role models to their children, really depresses me. I don’t like to tar them all with the same brush, because obviously every situation is different, but how much effort is it really to show some consideration for others, and then teach your children to do the same?
3) Spam Email and IMs. I know everyone hates this. I have an account on ICQ Messenger and each morning I see about 100 popups saying some Russian or Israeli spambot wants to add me as a friend. For one thing, I don’t speak or read either language. Secondly, if I don’t know the person via offline friendships or through a messageboard…I’m not going to add them. The same goes for emails, I won’t read any unless I know the person personally, or it’s from a work related email, as I’m sick of Trojans invading my poor little PC.
4) Drama Llamas. If you don’t know what I mean by this, it’s basically someone who constantly stirs up s*** or strives to create a big drama and fuss and essentially gain a lot of attention. I know far too many people who are drama llamas. I admit I can be a llama myself, but I hope I am maturing enough to recognise the signs and stop this annoying behaviour. I’m getting married in one month and the biggest rule of all is no drama llamas to be allowed to attend. It’s not fun for people when people cause unnecessary bother, and it just makes you look like a plank, and therefore less likely to be invited to anything worth going to in the future.
5) Football. Or soccer as the Americans and Australians call it. The game itself is fun, I have been known to play a bit myself (though I prefer cross country running). What bothers me is the extortionate wages paid to footballers, when there are people struggling to get jobs. Actually I’m more annoyed that they get paid that much all the time, but it’s ridiculous. Noone kicking a bag of air deserves to be paid £150,000 a week. It’s not creating a cure for cancer or promoting world peace now is it?? I imagine some people will say they need more wages as their careers are shorter than other workers, and I’d concede to that…a little. Giving them a higher wage such as maybe a £45,000 annual salary seems ok to me; it’s higher than the average salary in the UK at the moment, I believe, but giving them well over that amount in a single week just makes me want to vomit.
So there you go. 5 pet hates. I look forward to seeing other people’s vitriolic outbursts towards their own pet hates.
