A report on Pierre Desceliers.
This is a description of Pierre Desceliers’s world map. This map is from the sixteenth century and was made in Dieppe. The interesting thing about this map is that the North sides pictogram’s are upside down. We think that this is because the map was to big for him to lean over and the solution was to turn it around and draw from the other side.
In China you can see the mighty emperor khan sitting in his pavilion. This means that the French knew about china and its mighty empire. Japan is also shown on the map the island has four castles drawn on it that means that they thought that it was heavily fortified. In the north of china you can see two men working at a rock that means that it was a mine where gold, gems and other precious metals were won.
If look at Russia you can see that the French didn’t know a lot about that area. For instants, there are grass and plants in Siberia and strange animals allover the country.
If you look at the Arabic area the first thing you see is that the red sea is actually red. I think this is very strange and don’t know why it is red but it does mean that this is where its name comes from. You can also see a pavilion with crusaders and west you can see a castle probably French.
The Atlantic ocean is full of sea monsters this means that a lot of ships sunk there. There also a few ships these show the way the wind blows in particular areas.
In America you can see a lot more castles than in Asia so this means that the French occupation there was a lot bigger. And if you look at Canada the animals the animals there are a lot more accurate than in Russia.
