Recently, the Forbers magazine release a ranking of 100 most powerful women. The chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, is at the top.

  Isn’t it amazing that a woman became the chancellor of Germany? In fact, the social status of women started rising after the First World War.Since men went to the front, then the workforce in the country was stopped, there was no armaments, necessities. Then women took their job. As a result the social status of women rose and their abilities were acknowledged. From now on, women became an important role in the society.

  Nowadays, women takes up many jobs, which originally done by men. For example, the well-known United States Secretary of States, Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton and the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Margret Chan Fung Fu-chun.

  In the past, women assumed a particular cultural role. In rural areas, women were told to plant foods, feed small animal foods, fish, and make dairy products, while men hunted meat from large animals. Starting from the past century, the role of women have changed greatly. Traditionally, women emphasized in their child or some would sell foods to earn money. Nevertheless, in the past century, the labor market required more labour force, so women came about.

  Other than my mother, I admire a female revolutionist in China, Qiu Jin. She was a Chinese anti-Qing revolutionist, and writer but was executed after a failed uprising and today is considered a hero in China. She was also called The Woman Knight of Mirror Lake. There is a piece of poetry wrote by her:

 Don’t tell me women
are not the stuff of heroes,
I alone rode over the East Sea’s
winds for ten thousand leagues.
My poetic thoughts ever expand,
like a sail between ocean and heaven.
I dreamed of your three islands,
all gems, all dazzling with moonlight.
I grieve to think of the bronze camels,
guardians of China, lost in thorns.
Ashamed, I have done nothing;
not one victory to my name.
I simply make my war horse sweat.
Grieving over my native land
hurts my heart. So tell me;
how can I spend these days here?

  As women contributes much to the society. To make a perfect society, we should not neglect the women but let them enjoy the equality rights as the same as men.
