Describes the situation of police not getting involved in accidents that occur in private parking lots.

Okay, so I was shocked to find out that police will not come if you are a wreck in a parking lot. I discovered this yesterday when my mother was in a wreck here in my parking lot as someone backed into her. Her car was severely damaged and there’s was minimally damaged. When we called the police we were told that they couldn’t come out because the accident occurred in a “private parking lot”. And so we proceeded to get all of the insurance information ourselves. She then called her insurance company and was told to get a blue form from DPS today. We did, but this is not half the reason of why this police policy agitates me.

So apparently, the guy who backed into my mother called her insurance company and said that she backed into him! Now, this is impossible unless my mom’s car can magically back into someone sideways. And apparently he is not the owner of the car nor does he have insurance. All of these things contribute to the stress that I am moving this week and transportation is key. And I do believe that a lot of these issues would have been resolved in a more convenient, orderly manner if police would respond to an accident. It is not as if “private parking lots” have their own special police department. I also know that police do not have a problem responding to domestic disturbance calls etc. that occur in a “private parking lot” and so what makes this different?
