Paragraph 1
I feel that I am like Mr. Stevens, the protagonist of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel “Remains of the Day” because at times I don’t remain true to my genuine feelings and emotions. For example, in the film, Mr. Stevens, a butler at Darlington Hall, begins to develop feelings for Ms. Kenton, his co-worker and sometimes friend. Unfortunately Mr. Stevens is not able to pursue his feelings toward Miss Kenton due to the way he was raised and his personal beliefs that “one must always be proper at all times.” (Add 4 sentences as to how you are like Mr. Stevens and how if you deal how you deal with your true feelings)

Paragraph 2
In the film and novel, Mr. Stevens comes across as cold and uncaring due to his actions with other people. As one analyzes the Stevens character further, they are able to see that many of his personality traits and beliefs were instilled into him as a young child. (Add 4 sentences as to how you are like your parents but wish you weren’t)
Part 3:
It is very obvious that the author wanted the author to see bits and pieces of Stevens’ expressive side throughout the novel. An example of this can be found when Stevens broke the wine bottle after finding out Ms. Kenton would be marrying Mr. Benn. The author uses the imagery of broken glass and wine to show the hurt and rage that Mr. Stevens is feeling at that particular moment; he is a person who cannot let his real emotions out. By the end of the movie, judging from his conversation with Miss Kenton and dialogue with various people, it is apparent that Stevens has regrets and wishes he were able to feel joy and happiness.
Write 5-6 sentences on who you wish you could be like.
