The meaning of words sometimes get lost. When it comes to a word like “responsibility”, my actions need to shout out. Speaking and doing are two different matters.
According to the Mirriam Webster Dictionary, the word responsible means…”being able to answer for one’s conduct and obligations: TRUSTWORTHY”.
I have always been a keeper of words and their true meanings. Since grade school, I have checked the dictionary to make sure I was using the correct word. I keep hearing from prominent people like leaders of the community and leaders of our country words that are followed by actions that don’t match the meanings of these words. The true meaning of some words must be lost.
If I am responsible, I have to back that up with my actions…if I say I am responsible then I have the responsibility to do what is right. My perception of right and wrong must be equated with those members of society, past and present, who have walked the path of duty to insure freedom from terror and sickness for the good of their families and their communities…country and world. The members of society who put the care of their fellows above their own wants and needs are the members who show the most responsibility!
Being accountable for promises and striving to know more about our world takes more than rhetoric. Who said “…actions speak louder than words…”? All the good intentions in this world will not solve a single problem. Working toward and living in a commitment for solutions is action. Nothing can happen with words only.
When I hear anyone, anywhere say that they are responsible to help a cause, they must, beyond the applause, begin working for the cause. They must find the answers, do the research and live the solution. I believe if you want a Green World…you must be responsible to live green. Want to cut down on excessive spending? Then limit your spending…be accountable for your purchases…stop charging luxuries that can be done without.
Responsibility is a word that my friends think belongs in the lives of others and not rhemselves.
I keep hearing that the Democrats are responsible for THIS and the Republicans are responsible for THAT! Dan Rather was heard saying during the riots in Los Angeles that ending these horrible problems in our society had to begin in each man’s heart. I believe that when caring begins in my heart and shouldering my part of any wrong doing , then and only then have I begun to live responsibly.
Sometimes I wish that it was an easier to be good. Sometimes the next right thing to do is not so easy for me. This keeper of words and their meanings tries not to succumb to the selfish part of my mind…talking and walking are two different things. My obligation to do the right thing helps me live with myself. Can’t preach and ignore it! I must take responsibility to the greatest extent of its meaning.
